Twin Energy’s renewable wind project in western Maine has reached a significant milestone with the start of blasting operations on South Twin Mountain. This work marks the beginning of a critical stage in site preparation for the installation of three GE wind turbines, each designed to generate 6.1 MW of clean energy. In early September, controlled blasting began to clear bedrock and make way for turbine foundations and access roads across the rugged project site in Rumford and Roxbury.
The blasting is being conducted under strict safety protocols and environmental oversight. Real-time monitoring ensures that impacts to nearby ecosystems and residences are avoided. Weekly environmental inspections are being conducted to evaluate dust and vibration control, wildlife and habitat protection, and full compliance with environmental standards. These measures reflect the project’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in a responsible manner.
Once stable roadways are established Reed & Reed crews will build the massive concrete turbine foundations prior to delivery large of turbine components. Installation of underground drainage and electrical systems will be completed in time to support turbine erection in the early summer, 2026. Reed & Reed will mobilize its massive MLC 650 crane to the site to erect the turbines on their 117-meter towers.
With completion targeted for October 2026, the project is on track to provide clean, reliable power to thousands of homes across New England, furthering Twin Energy’s commitment to expand renewable energy capacity across the region.
