The Bridge Superintendent is responsible for the successful completion of bridge construction projects and establishing good relationships with all key team members.  As Reed & Reed’s full-time, on-site manager, the Bridge Superintendent leads the planning, scheduling and sequencing of our labor and materials that go into the construction.

 

Qualifications and Essential Skills

Professional

  • Direct experience supervising and scheduling self-perform labor forces
  • Able to supervise up to 15+ subordinates including foremen, field engineers, and tradespersons
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact with our workforce, with Owners, and subcontractors
  • Consistent success on prior projects
  • Strong understanding of risk management concepts and issues
  • Exhibit strong ability to resolve conflicts
  • Participate in business development and presentations for future work

 

Technical

  • Well versed in all aspect of construction, particularly self-perform concrete, heavy rigging, layout, cofferdams and Best Management Practices of erosion control
  • Expert at identifying equipment needs and use for activities
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability; able to see better ways to improve productivity or work sequences
  • Able to perform scope reviews, participate in the buyout of the project, and help negotiate prices with subcontractors or suppliers
  • In-depth knowledge of safety requirements; OSHA 30 hour training course
  • Ability to develop construction schedules
  • Create and update 3 Week Look Ahead schedules
  • In-depth understanding of Reed & Reed’s policies and use of documentation (e.g. time sheets, purchase orders, and cost coding)
  • Good computer skills working with Microsoft Office

 

Experience

  • Experience managing projects $1M to $15M
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent, or a construction management degree
  • 5-15 years of progressive construction experience with 5+ years as a foreman
  • Willing to work on jobsite as a working superintendent
