Project Description

Reed & Reed was prime contractor for this complex, three phase project to replace the Payne Road bridges over the Maine Turnpike South Portland spur. Work included demolishing two six span overpasses, each some 375 ft long and building a new bridge in three phases with a combined width of 97 ft. The substructure included six cofferdams and 12,000 lf of driven H-piles while the superstructure was comprised of 1,157,000 lb structural steel and 1025 cy of reinforced concrete deck. The project also included complex roadwork, traffic signals and lighting but Reed & Reed completed the project 7 months ahead of schedule while coordinating the passage of 26,000 vehicles a day through the worksite.
