Project Description

Reed & Reed successfully constructed the first commercial wind farm in New England on top of Mars Hill in Northern Maine.

The project consists of 28 1.5mw GE wind generating turbines. Reed & Reed’s scope of work included excavation and backfill of turbine foundations, design and construction of the foundations, installation of tower electrical systems and erection of the 28 WTGs.

The nacelles weigh 120,000 lb and were placed on top of 3 piece towers which stand 252 ft tall. The rotor and blades form a circle nearly 300 ft across with the highest point of rotation some 400 ft above the ground.

Reed & Reed completed the work on time despite an aggressive schedule and challenging weather conditions and did so without any recordable injuries.
