Project Description
Reed & Reed was the EPC Contractor for the Bull Hill Wind Project in Eastbrook, Maine. This work included the design and construction of the foundations, civil infrastructure, underground collector system, grounding, collector substation, interconnect substation, O & M building, WTG transport, and turbine erection. Work on the project was originally scheduled for a Fall 2011 start, but was delayed by the Owner and started in February 2012. Our completion date remained the same due to the Owner requirements of a 2012 COD.
The work was completed safely, on budget, and ahead of schedule. Reed & Reed staff and subcontractors had a very aggressive schedule to meet. We had to contend with a remote site accessed by 9 miles of existing roads through Spring thaw conditions. This project was a “Zero Impact” project which means that there cannot be any infringement on wetland areas. We installed a major, pile supported bridge over wetlands in order to move construction materials and equipment. We received commendations for our efforts with our environmental efforts as this project was in an environmentally sensitive area. The project included 19 Vestas 1.8 MW wind turbines with a nameplate capacity of 34.2 MW of clean, renewable power. These turbines were erected on 95 meter towers, making them the tallest wind turbines in New England.
