Structural Stabilization and Repairs to Berths 1, 2A, and 2B Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

Reed & Reed has recently completed the structural stabilization and repairs to Berths 1, 2A, and 2B at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine.  We were selected for this difficult project by the Navy through their “Best Value” selection process which takes into account factors such as a firm’s prior record of performance, capability and experience, approach to the work, and price.  Our innovative approach to the work included the installation of drilled micro piles instead of driven H-piles to penetrate the obstructions present, the use of patented cantilevered forming systems, and the processing of excavated materials on site to minimize the amount of materials removed from site and hauled to approved disposal sites.

In addition to the difficult nature of the work itself, we worked to consistently meet the Navy’s stringent requirements for security, safety, and environmental compliance.  We also coordinated our work closely with the Navy so that we did not interfere with ongoing operations of the Navy submarine repair and rehabilitation facility.

The project was completed ahead of schedule to the highest quality and safety standards.
